Posted by Ignatius on Thursday, October 16, 2014 In : RANTING
Just a quick post to point out things i have noticed after a conversation with a highly enlightened person ;-)
Crossfit seems to be the vehicle that Reebok is using to build their brand as they used aerobics in the 80's & 90's. Just look at the similarities

THE OUTFITS....

Competitions... by Reebok

Group workout... (except crossfit is aerobics disguised as "weightlifting" ;-)

Both can be competed in as a sport.

Both Sports / Trends sold merchandise for Reebok not to mention certifications for big ...

CROSSFIT and a lot of studio gyms are FULL OF BULL-SH**!

Posted by Ignatius on Friday, August 15, 2014 In : RANTING
An enormous amount of smaller gyms / "boxes" have sprung up lately almost like Starbucks (One on each side of the street). I am sorry but I am calling BULLSHIT!!!

I am fed up of every 2nd guy that has the money or marketing skill to open up a Crossfit box after completing the level I course. Also some guys that look good naked AND perhaps did 6 months of a Sport science certificate that open up a fitness studio. Just as a side note the person that does your hair is in a better regulated indust...

EPIC Mountain bike strength

Posted by Ignatius on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 In : Performance products

Almost everyone has seen this scene on a early Saturday or Sunday morning in South-Africa, 2 or 4 guys and girls that look like they may have the physiques of office workers fully kitted out on their mountain bikes riding along the side of the road. Every so often you do see guys that look like the typical “skinny” mountain biker as apposed to a typical accountant or IT specialist. This is the very popular sport / recreation activity that is Mountain biking.

It has grown in leaps and ...

The "FOOT CLAN"

Posted by Ignatius Loubser on Monday, September 23, 2013 In : Strength

It seems for the past few years a “new” approach is being used by S&C coaches in that they claim the feet on the athletes body is the ALPHA & OMEGA. For the one reason being that it is the only point of contact the athlete has with the ground or athletic surface. I have decided to call these guys “The Foot clan” the original definition or origin of the foot clan is below:

“The Foot Clan is a fictional ninjutsu clan in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and all related medi...

Rate of force development...

Posted by Ignatius Naat Loubser on Monday, September 16, 2013 In : Strength

In the world of strength & conditioning a lot of the S&C coaches out there uses the phrase "rate of force development" or for this text "RFD", because this is allegedly most important component that has to be improved in sport performance. Firstly let’s start with what is RFD?

It has been defined as the rate of rise of contractile force at the beginning of a muscle action (Aagaard et al., 2002). It has also been said that RFD is shown in the short and long components of the stretch shor...

Hamstrings... Tear or not to tear, How? Is the question.

Posted by Ignatius on Sunday, August 26, 2012 In : Strength

Basically when it comes to problems with hamstring injuries pre-hab is better that re-hab. So if you are already sitting with a hamstring injury you need to see a physiotherapist as soon as possible after you have iced it as soon as possible after the injury.

Seeing as the rehabilitation process is not part of my discussion here i am not going into much detail of that. But a good physio will be able to help with that with various therapies including but not limited to dry needling, deep ti...

Emotional content (AKA Bruce lee) Cameron’s gold medal

Posted by Ignatius on Monday, July 30, 2012 In : Mental performance

By Ignatius (Naat) Loubser

In the movie enter the dragon Bruce Lee is teaching a student and explains to him he needs to have “emotional content” in his kick, to which the student kicks with more aggressive anger... Very sternly he gets reprimanded by Bruce as he clearly said emotional content NOT anger. What I believe “emotional content” means is that you need to be able to move by being in the correct emotional state of mind and not a burst of uncontrolled emotion. Also to collec...

I have been working in the fitness industry for the past 16 years and have worked with thousands of people who want to lose weight and become more energetic or healthy.

The one thing that always puzzled me is that a lot of people that I worked with knew exactly what they shouldn’t do and kept on doing exactly what they shouldn’t. Even when it came to my own training and eating habits and I am the “EXPERT”  and I couldn...

5 Components for explosive power development

Posted by Ignatius on Monday, May 2, 2011 In : Strength

Why do the same exercise routines cause greater or smaller effects in different athletes? Why is it that if an athlete were to copy a training routine of a famous athlete it will not create the same result for him/her as what it did for that famous athlete?

The secret is that one should only use the general underlying ideas of these programs and employ it in the correct manner for a specific athlete because not all athletes have the same physical development of the components below and this ...
